Supporting Disadvantaged Children

The state of Bihar lacks proper educational infrastructure and a huge gap exists between the demand for education and its supply. It is generally recognised that the only way for children to receive a proper education is to study at non government schools. These are better resourced and have higher teacher to pupil ratios than government schools. Without sponsorship, this type of education is inaccessible for children from poor families in Bodhgaya.

Children sponsored via Kusala Projects are placed at Sant Moggallana Public School (STMG), a non government school in Bodhgaya. STMG has excellent facilities, dedicated and caring staff, dual medium learning (subjects taught in both Hindi & English), a full range of grades pre-primary to matriculation, and a very convenient location for the children.

The cost of sponsorship for the initial year in grades Pre Primary-II is 18,420 Indian rupees which equates to 438 Australian dollars at current rates. There is no administration charge. All spending is for the direct benefit of the student. A breakdown of costs is displayed in this table.

Subsequent years for grades Pre Primary-II are 16,420 rupees, or AU $390 at current rates. For grades III-V, the initial year is 19,220 rupees, or AU $457 at current rates. Subsequent years are 17,020 rupees, or AU $405 at current rates. To calculate these costs from Indian rupees into your own currency, please use the converter above.

When a sponsorship is initiated, sponsors will receive an information kit about the child and regular reports from the child. If you are interested in sponsoring a child in Bodhgaya, please write to Chittapala at enquiries@kusalaprojects.org
