Kusala Projects Supporting Children in Bodhgaya, India

Bigger and Better

During the recent hot season break, new premises for Elsa Primary School were found just 500 metres from the old school building, but closer to students’ homes. The previous school building was a on dirt lane, but the new school is on a wide concrete road, making access much easier.

The building has four classrooms, an office, a kitchen, two toilets and a storage shed. It has an open-air quadrangle where assemblies can be held and students can play. The flat roof provides space for recreation and open-air classes can be held there during the cold winter months. As well, there is a yard at the side where the students will be able to cultivate trees & vegetables.

The classrooms are bigger, airier and let in more light than at the previous building. Overall, learning conditions have improved, plus there is ample room to increase student numbers at a future time.
